It's no secret that Honda's lineup is clearly missing a sports car. Of course, the Japanese manufacturer offers sporty cars in the form of a Honda Civic SI or its more radical version, the Type R. Nevertheless, these are derived from the Honda Civic itself. Things are a bit better at Acura with the Integra and the TLX, both available in Type S versions. However, the departure of the NSX has left a big gap in the brand's lineup, and it may well be filled.
Indeed, it seems that the Japanese manufacturer intends to present not one but two sports-oriented cars at the end of October during the Japan Mobility Show. This is excellent news for brand enthusiasts, but what exactly is it?
The Return of Big Names
At the moment, not much is known about these sports cars except that they are likely to be 100% electric. It could very well be the future NSX that was promised after the departure of the previous generation. Other rumors also suggest a modern version of the S2000.
Other rumors suggest that Honda could bring back the Prelude nameplate. With the absence of a sports coupe in the Civic and Accord lineups, anything is possible, and we know that the Japanese manufacturer has always been successful in this segment.
The thing that personally bothers me a bit is the electric aspect of it. I know that Honda plans to offer 30 new models in its electrification plan, and it makes sense to start with limited-production vehicles. However, I still have a hard time imagining names as powerful as NSX, S2000, or Prelude being associated with a 100% electric powertrain. These cars are still known today for their sound and unique driving experience. I have no doubt that the brand's engineers will make it interesting despite electrification, but the car enthusiast in me can't help but feel nostalgic.
In any case, the end of the month promises to be interesting, and I am eager to discover what the Japanese manufacturer has prepared for us.
